This piece was inspired by The Legendary David Vanoverbeke. He is a musician and a poet. While watching him play I was entranced by the way his hands moved over the frets of his guitar. I likened the movements to break dancing. The dancers hold then evolve into another position but all the while being connected to the same rhythm.
My favorite part of music has always been bass. This is what bass would look like if turned human. This piece depicts one beat in a song. The orange aura represents a great passion and endurance for life and fun.
This piece is about the creation of an idea. The woman has music notes collecting all around her. They have come together to form the idea which is now jumping into reality.
The butterfly is a symbol of transformation. Her life changes to such an extreme that at the end she is unrecognizable. The butterfly embraces the changes without question knowing that there is something larger than her that has been guiding her.
This piece represents the heart chakra or Anahata. It is symbolized by a green flower with twelve petals. Each petal represents different aspects of the chakra when it is in balance. These are bliss, compassion, purity, unity, kindness, forgiveness, clarity, understanding, empathy, harmony, peace, and love. These qualities are radiating out of the woman’s heart chakra and are coming towards the viewer. Her arms are open towards the sky in a gesture of gratitude and love.
Lavinia is a character in Shakespeare’s Titus Andronicus. She ends up getting her hands cut off and tongue cut out by the sons of an evil queen. This piece represents the transformation of Lavinia and her emotions that she could no longer speak.
In Greek mythology, Pandora was the first human woman. She opened a box out of curiosity and unknowingly unleashed all the evils of humanity. She managed to shut it in time to save Hope inside the box. This piece is about the moment she opened Pandora’s box.
To me ravens represent mind, thought, and wisdom. The girl in the picture is being enlightened by the raven and is shedding her own skin in the process. “Lightly” is about the moment of becoming something more than yourself.
