“Rock Job 2.0” Oil
This is a painting based on the sculpture Jean d’Aire by Auguste Rodin. He is one of six men who offered themselves as hostages to the English so that they would stop their seige on their town Calais. This is the moment where he is being marched to the camp where most likely he will be executed. He is almost turned into stone as he contemplates death and the job that lays before him. He’s surrounded by a blue aura of protection as he is being led away from his home. The 2.0 in the title refers to a superior or advanced version of an original concept. In this case the original concept being selflessness and Jean d’Aire has advanced this concept by sacrificing himself.
